When your schedule is insane and staying on plan is difficult: Reboot

So the last week or two life has gotten pretty hectic. I've had work, job interviews, birthday celebrations and tons of doc appointments all over the place. I've been buying a bus pass because I've been running around so much. All of this of course makes it difficult to eat at home and eat healthy. I've been staying within my cals except for two days where I had two pieces of fruit extra. But I hate WHAT I'm eating and HOW I'm eating. The "what": I've been eating fried stuff. Fried tofu here and there, one day I had fries. I don't even finish my plate, but I still feel less than stellar after eating that crap. It makes me kind of mad that when you don't eat meat the only other options for you are unhealthy deep fried stuff. I feel awful buying a taco salad when I could just as well make one at home and they are 10$ when I go to this vegan friendly place up the street. I need to remember that it's not a waste if it's saving me calo...

Recipe: Sweet potato spinach curry

~*~*~This recipe is gluten free and vegan~*~*~ As are all my recipes I tend to shoot for 2 servings, but this very low cal dish makes enough for leftovers unless you are both VERY hungry! This recipe was inspired by the potato spinach curry in Appetite for Reduction (pg. 232). I think this is a little quicker and I hate potato chunks so it uses marinara instead of chopped tomatoes. I think that makes it creamier too. *NOTE* Also, this recipe is best if made ahead of time and eaten later/the next day. The flavors really have time to soak in that way. Or you could probably make it in a slow cooker, I don't have one but this is an assumption. EDITED TO ADD:  I forgot, it's a bit more bitter than I like. I like to add a tiny bit of sweetener, this should just be to taste and the sweetener of your choice. Stuff you will need: to the drawing board! Prep directions: First, put 2.5 cups water with a veggie base/or use veggie broth, in a medium pot. While waiting for the wat...

Surprising myself: Who is this girl wearing the smaller shirt?

So today I was reading through some old blogs. I found this blog from the fourth day that I was back on plan as far as my health was concerned. It talked about some truths. Truth: I am a compulsive overeater/binger/emotional eater Truth: I can not do this alone: My sparkpage and sparkfriends. I <3 you all! It's been going on 5 months now, I honestly don't think I've ever stayed On Plan even this long...I lost 70 lbs in 2004 but I lost it in 4 months (and was totally unhealthy). I find it somewhat comforting that not much has changed. I still very much believe these truths to be the way things are, always will be, and will need to be worked at every day. It has gotten easier, but it's always kind of there, in the back of my mind. Fooooooooood will make you feel better! Foooooood to celebrate.....augh.  I'm here for the long haul. I'm not going to leave Spark , I'm going to keep my head together with the emotional stuff, I can do this. If you're i...

Cream of broccoli soup recipe

~*~*~This recipe is gluten free and vegan~*~*~ As are all my recipes This makes 2 servings Stuff you will need: Stuff I forgot on the drawing board: Chili powder Daiya (if you like) or nutritional yeast Chopped red onion Prep Directions: The first thing you want to do is put your 2 cups of light plain soy milk (for the calorie watchers) over low heat while you chop your broccoli. Add 1 tbls veggie base. I just got some Spike veggie base powder and it's pretty good. As for the broccoli, I just use mostly florets and break them off or chop them into large chunks. I used about 2 cups of broccoli for the soup. *NOTE* I set aside about a half cup for garnish. Over low heat let 2 tbls of earth balance melt and simmer and then add the onions and saute until they start to turn clearish. Here, you need some type of blender/food processor. I use the new ninja master prep pro . I just add the broccoli Florette's to the bottom of the large container and pour the hot soy milk o...

Featured "success story"? Moi? ;)

Heya, just wanted to let everyone know that I have a story over at  http://www.theplantrx.com  where I'm featured as the success story of the week. Check it out and be sure to check the site out! It's very informative! I loved the video on that site with an interview with clinton about how he went vegan after his heart surgery:

The other side of binging

So, I've been On Plan perfectly for almost 3 months. I haven't lost anything for 2 weeks. It's that time of the month though, and mine lasts FOR EV AR, so, who knows, maybe I'll have a whoosh. The thing that has me concerned though isn't that I haven't lost - so much as where I'm going mentally DUE TO the no loss. I've had a history of eating disordered behavior along the other end of the spectrum. I binge yeah, but I also have gone through periods of starvation and laxative abuse. (These things don't work out as well as you hope they will. Also they inevitably lead to binging). Anyhow, not losing for 2 weeks has almost immediately put me into the mindset of -- cutting cals. It's never so simple as oh I should cut by 100 and see after a week where that gets me. It's more like, cut by 300...and if that works, hell, go lower. I know this is the start of something bad. So yeah, I'm worried. I want to be this person: Not this pers...
