The Struggle is Real...

I haven't posted here in 2 years. I have lost about 40 lbs, it was more, prolly around 60, but I've recently regained some due to medication changes. BUT, I have the med thing under control now. I take haldol, which turns off my full signal. I started taking wellbutrin, which turns it back on? I don't know how these things work, dagnabbit!

Anyhow, I miss this place, I miss my readers. I've been living with my head in the sand for years. I feel lost, afloat on a sea of ranch dressing or something. I finally feel like I have some idea as to what I need to do. Again*

A few posts back, which to be fair, was years ago, I said I was going back to counting calories because even though I know I can't stick to it I had to do "something."  "Something" is not enough. These are SOME of the diets I have tried:

Slim fast
counting calories
atkins
south beach
keto
veganism (for health)
Extreme Low Calorie diets
Starvation
Counting calories
Juice fasts
Intuitive eating
Diet pills
Counting calories*

(Yes, I know that is on here 3 times, it's the only thing that seems to work, but I always STOP DOING IT. Why? Because it's tedious and tiresome and eating should not be this complex.)

That's probably just a handful. Ha.

I know many of you are here with me, we've all been there, feeling like we have tried it all, what else is there, short of surgery? (not an option I will consider ATM, most likely never will). I am feeling motivated though, but where do I put this energy? The other day I seriously considered shelling out 200$ on a fitbit blaze that I assure you I'll use for a week and then it will collect dust in the drawer with my fitbit flex. Yawn.

So instead of that, I spent 38$ on a set of portion control plates and a portion control pasta cooking basket/strainer. I'm not doing any fancy diets. I'm not buying anything high tech because I already know from experience it will. not. work. joining a gym and shelling out tons of money on a personal trainer that I stopped going to see after a few months didn't work either.

This is my plan, it's nothing too fancy schmancy. I'm going to eat less. I'll use my portion plates. I'll fill the biggest portion of the plate with veggies or fruit, and the other two smaller portions with grains/starches and protein. I'm going to eat ONE portion of pasta instead of 3. I am just at a point in life where I am fed up. I need to find something I can do FOREVER, and anything that doesn't meet that one basic criteria, buh bye. GTFO. So, no grand gestures, but small habits that will last a lifetime. That is the goal.

I'm not focusing on exercise right now as it's winter and I'm already in enough pain with my fibro. Focusing for now just on making healthier choices, eating out less, and smaller portions. The end. I think this is how most 'naturally thin' people live. haha. WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT!?

Also, I once again forgot this email login for a super long time. I think it's etched into my brain now, so I'll def be back, and hopefully often.

  1. Like you I tried a lot of things, calorie counting helps the most, not willing to do fad diets anymore as they cause more weight problems in the end, pills don't work for me (except FenPhen which is now illegal) and I'm not willing to try more diets or pills. The only other drastic thing I will try is surgery. That's it. Good luck!

"Courage is the hallmark of a warrior"

Are you traveling this path alone, or with your significant other? Joey and I started on this path in earnest on October 19th 2010. He eventually went veggie, I went vegan and we've both become pretty health conscious.  He's lost about 22 lbs, I've lost almost 70 now. (He doesn't have nearly as much to lose.)  Exposure Therapy Joey has a fairly wide streak of social anxiety. He came with me to the gym the day I got my free 3 day pass earlier this week. He even came on the tour of the gym with me, which was panic inducing for him. I had butterflies, but he was shaking and miserable just sitting in the waiting area after the tour, and he was all alone.  Today I asked him to sign up for the 3day pass. I know right now he doesn't have the time or the drive to get a membership, he just wouldn't use it enough for it to matter. But I wanted him to expose himself to the idea, I think exposure therapy is good for him, in many ways.  I think it can help a lot of peop

"Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving."

I looked at this blog for the first time in two years the other day. I wanted to reference a post in another piece of writing. I had completely forgotten that I had revamped this site, and I like its look now. I do honestly miss writing here. So, I might try and liven the joint up a bit. Check back soon! Where am I now? I am going for a physical next Friday. It will be the first one I've had in a year and a half.  I have been gaining and losing the same 20 pounds my entire life, it seems. I have had some severe health issues in the last couple of years, like heavy shit that I'm not going to bore you with right now. Either way, my immune system decided to go bust. I have spent close to a year trying to improve it. I'm eating pretty healthy, I take vitamins now, and immune-boosting gummies, and zinc and blah blah blah. I was also suffering from chronic dehydration. Don't let yourself get there kiddie winkies. It's a bad time. I have spent the last three months or

Cookbook giveaway! (Appetite for Reduction) Enter now!

This contest is for U.S residents only: Okay, so I have a few ideas for some giveaways that I'm planning on doing over the next few months. This is the first one, the next one I'll do once I hit 100 followers cuz it's a bigger prize and I'd like as many people as possible to be able to enter and spread the word. Contest Deadline: Starts now (April 12th) Ends before midnight (eastern time) April 22nd 2011 For now, I will be giving away a copy of my favorite cookbook, Appetite for Reduction , by Isa Chandra Moskowitz  << Her website. The Prize: This book is amazing, a lot of non-vegans think that vegan cookbooks are all full of strange ingredients that are only available at health food stores, but that isn't the case with this book. It has simple recipes made with easy to find and prepare ingredients and nearly everything in the book is between 200-400 calories per serving, and the servings are a good size. I've made many fabulous dishes from this b
